Dale Dixon Oehler 77 0f North Hollywood, California died Monday November 5, 2018 at 4:40 A.M. at Providence Saint Josephs Medical Center in Burbank, Ca. He was born October 1, 1941 in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Raymond Carl Frederick and Ann Horoda Oehler. He attended Harvard Park Grade and graduated from Springfield High School with the class of 1958, he entered Northwestern University where he received his bachelors degree in fine arts in 1964 and continued at the University of Iowa where he received his masters degree in composition in 1968. He married Sharon Yvonne Wright Oehler on October 12, 1968 in Iowa City, Iowa they moved to Los Angeles in 1969 to pursue his musical passion. In the early 1970's, Dale again met up with J.J. Johnson of the Miles Davis Band, Johnson introduced Dale to Marvin Gay, with whom he arranged "Trouble Man" the title song for the movie of the same name. Dale went on to write the film cue for "Shaft's Big Score" followed by arranging Freddie Hubbard's first Columbia album "High Energy"in 1972, he arranged the title tune to "You Light Up My Life" for Andre Kostelanetz. He went on to produce, arrange, and play on over 3 dozen albums by Joni Mitchell, Al Jarreau, Joe Sample, Dolly Pardon, George Benson, Diane Schur Jennifer Holiday, Hubert Laws, Carman McRae, and many, many more.
His survivors include his Wife of 50 years, Sharon of North Hollywood, Ca. two sons Michael Oehler of Sandpoint, Idaho and David (Taly) Oehler of North Hollywood, California and four Cousins, Nancy Bennett, Carol Deist, James Oehler, and Stephen Oehler. He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Ann Oehler.
Graveside services and burial will be held Tuesday, November 13, 2018 11:00 A.M. at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Mt. Olive, Illinois, friend may call beginning at 10:30 A.M,
Reverend James Ritter will officiate.
Soloist Ernie Thomack will sing "Amazing Grace" and "The Lords Prayer".
