Alberic “Bert” Richard Vancauwelaert passed away on Friday, July 25, 2025 at his home in Benton, IL at 6:48 p.m. He was 70 years old.

Alberic “Bert” was born on July 14, 1955 in Herrin, IL to Alberic Joseph and Kathleen Grace (Ramsay) Vancauwelaert. He attended Litchfield schools and graduated in the Class of 1973. Alberic “Bert” was employed as a union coal miner and later became a safety inspector at the mine. He was highly involved in the United Mine Workers of America. Bert loved camping, fishing and hunting and spending time with his many friends.

Alberic “Bert” is survived by three sons: Eric (Shannon) Vancauwelaert of white city il, also Ian and Colby Vancauwelaert, two grandchildren Brendan(Wilsonville)and Allison Landre(white city), one brother, Tony (Ono Olivadoti) Vancauwelaert of Chicago and one sister, Kathy (Gary) Rogers of Litchfield. He was also survived many many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Becker and Son Funeral Home in Mt. Olive, IL on Saturday, August 9, 2025. Service will take place at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in the Mt. Olive Union Miners Cemetery. Lunch for friends and family will take place at the Mt. Olive V.F.W immediately following interment.
