Alice Elfrieda Droste
Alice Elfrieda Droste died peacefully on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at 10:15 p.m. at Gillespie Health and Rehab Center, Gillespie, IL. She was 95 years old.
Mrs. Droste was born on November 3, 1927 in Litchfield, IL to Emil Henry Niemann and Emma Dorothy (Reising) Niemann. She attended Litchfield High School and graduated in the Class of 1945. Mrs. Droste married Vernon Ervin Droste on June 20, 1948 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in South Litchfield Township. Mrs. Droste, along with her husband, Vernon, owned and operated Droste’s Market in Mt. Olive, IL. He preceded her in death on March 1, 2016. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive, IL. Mrs. Droste served on the Mt. Olive Library Board and was a member of the Lydia Circle.
Mrs. Droste is survived by two sons: Richard (Mary) Droste of Charleston, IL, Charles (Vicki) Droste of Mt. Olive, IL, one daughter, Barbara (Michael) Rademacher of Mt. Olive, IL, four granddaughters: Emilie (Todd) Erickson of Flower Mound, TX, Julie (Brian) Mollet of Glen Carbon, IL, Jenna (Kevin) McCarthy of O’Fallon, IL Amanda (Andrew) Patterson of O’Fallon, IL, three grandsons: John (Lesley) Droste of Carmel, IN, Alex (Carly) Droste of Crystal Lake, IL, Paul (Rachel) Rademacher of Mt. Vernon, IL, eighteen great-grandchildren: Jack, Caroline and Sam Erickson; Dawson and Curtis Droste; Colin, Will, Sam, Greta and Henry McCarthy; Claire, Alice, Jack and Lucy Patterson; Max Droste; Ella and Annika Mollet; Eliot Rademacher; and a brother-in-law, Roy Monke.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, David Droste, and a grandson, Mitchell Vernon Rademacher.
Visitation will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 from 9 am until the start of the church service at 11 am. Reverend James Ritter will officiate. Interment will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Lunch will be served for family and friends immediately following interment at Immanuel Educational Building.
Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church and Mt. Olive Public Library.
