Arthur Niehaus Obituary

Arthur William Niehaus, formerly of Mt. Olive, Illinois, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020, at 5:50 p.m. at Heritage Health of Gillespie in Gillespie, Illinois. Arthur was 95 years old.

Arthur was born on November 13, 1925, in New Douglas, Illinois, to the late Edward Niehaus and the late Bertha (Prange) Niehaus. He attended New Douglas Grade School and Livingston High School graduating in 1943. He joined the Army in 1950 and served until 1952. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Arthur was a member of the VFW where he served as commander and quartermaster. He was also a member of the American Legion and AmVets where he served as commander. He served as a volunteer driver and EMT for the Mt. Olive Ambulance Service for a number of years. He married Evelyn Lucille (Halleman) Niehaus on January 7, 1955 at the Lutheran Church in New Douglas, Illinois. She preceded him in death on April 18, 2019. Arthur was employed by Olin Corporation. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive and served as church deacon and president of the church council.

Arthur is survived by two sons, Roger (Gail) Niehaus and Wayne (Angie) Niehaus, one daughter, Brenda (Larry) Durston, a brother Edward Niehaus, and a sister, Naoma Keppler, six grandchildren: Casey Niehaus, Kara Strode, Jon Durston, Ryan Durston, Kayla Niehaus and Kyle Niehaus and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two brothers: Eldon and Harold Niehaus.

A private family graveside service, officiated by Reverend Ben Fiore, will take place at Mt. Olive City Cemetery. Mt. Olive VFW will provide military honors.

Memorials are suggested to Mt. Olive Zion Lutheran Church or the Mt. Olive VFW.
