Betty June Edith (Jones) Gerdes


Betty June Gerdes passed away at Heritage Manor in Gillespie, Illinois on Friday, December 4, 2020 at 8:10 p.m. She was 88 years old.


Betty was born on November 29, 1932 in Gillespie, Illinois, to the late Hiram E. Jones and late Geneva Irene (Blake) Jones. She attended grade school in Gillespie, Illinois. She married Henry (Hank) L. Gerdes on July 11, 1949 in Kentucky. He preceded her in death on January 11, 2004. 


She was employed by S & S Grocery, Hano, Jubelt’s Bakery and the Crossroads Restaurant all in Mt. Olive, Illinois. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and belonged to the Lydia-Circle and Quilters. She was also a member of the Mt. Olive Turner Hall, and she was a Girl Scout leader. Betty enjoyed pinnacle, crossword puzzles, quilting, bowling, flowers and reading books. 


Betty is survived by two sons Mike (Kathy) Gerdes of Gillespie, Illinois, Henry (Marilyn) Gerdes, Litchfield, Illinois, four daughters Patty Johnson, Connie (George) Andrasko, Janie (Jeff) Kaduk all of Mt. Olive, and Tina Dever of Litchfield, one brother Dale (Barb) Demkey of Gillespie and one sister, Rae Marie Demkey of Jacksonville, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents George and Effie Jones and Sam and Miranda Blake, her parents and her husband, two sons, David and Robert, a sister Vicky Demkey, a brother, Dan, a sister-in-law, Georgia, a grandson Christopher Davis, and a great-granddaughter, Elysia Wallace.


A private family service will be held at Becker and Son Funeral Home in Mt. Olive, Illinois on Wednesday, December 9th. A public graveside service will follow at 11:45 at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Mt. Olive, Illinois. Mask and Social Distancing required.


Pallbearers are Kyle Gerdes, Kory Gerdes, Cameron Dever, Chad Davis, Andy Andrasko, David Andrasko and Phillip Kaduk
Memorials are suggested to Adopt-A-Pet and Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
