Betty Lou Vukelich
Betty Lou Vukelich passed away Thursday, September 16, 2021 at 1:51 p.m. at Glenwood Assisted Living in Staunton, IL. Betty was 87 years old.
Born on December 12, 1933, in Staunton, IL, Betty was the daughter of August and Betty (Reese) Firley. She graduated from Staunton High School and enjoyed cheerleading. She was employed as a data processor at FiServ. She married Lawrence Vukelich on September 13, 1953 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Staunton, IL. Betty was a member of St. John Paul II Catholic Church in Mt. Olive, IL. She enjoyed the sport of horse racing.
Betty is survived by her husband, a son, Anthony (Lorraine) Vukelich, a daughter, Tracey (Karl) Bietz, three grandchildren: Anthony, Robert, and Jonas, and two great-grandchildren: Jacob and Kieran.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents August and Betty Firley and brother Bill Firley.
Betty was loved by everyone lucky enough to have her smile shared with them. She loved her family first, but her friends were a close second. Many good times were shared in game nights, scrapbooking, crafts and lunches out. During her years in California, she was an avid and excellent bowler. She touched many lives with her goodness and joy.
Visitation will take place on Monday, September 20, 2021 from 10-11 a.m. at St. John Paul II Catholic Church in Mt. Olive. Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. and will be officiated by the Very Reverend Thomas Hagstrom. Burial will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Mt. Olive.
Memorials are suggested to St. John Paul II Catholic Church in Mt. Olive.
