Brandon Edward Mathis of Staunton, IL born June 18, 1929 in Dover, Tennessee, died on
June 4, 2020 at 3:15 p.m. at his daughters residence surrounded by his family.
Brandon retired as a Sergeant Major after 35 years of service in the United States Army.
He was a veteran of the Korean War. While serving in the Army he was awarded the
Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal .
He was employed by Granite City Steel for 43 years. A member of the
Local 16 United Steel Workers of America.
Brandon married Yvonne Sue Lakin on July 26th, 1953. She proceeded him in death on
May 9th, 2015. He was also proceeded in death by his parents, William and Ruby (Brandon) Mathis,
4 brothers: Orbin, Edison, Aaron,and William Mathis and 1 sister, Lillie Mae Keel,
and 1 great grandchild, William Lee Mathis.
Brandon is survived by 1 daughter: Tammy (Dennis) Martin of Staunton, IL. 5 sons:
Keith Mathis of Atlanta, Ga, Scott Mathis of Mt. Olive, Il, Greg (Karen) Mathis
of Woodriver, IL, Tracy (Jillyen) Mathis of Fayetteville, NC and Daniel (Beth) Mathis
of Staunton, IL.
He is also survived by 10 grandsons: Dennis Gaddis of Litchfield, IL, Justin and Jake Mathis
of Mt. Olive, IL. Chad (Ashley) Mathis of Staunton, IL, Corey Mathis of Bloomington, IL,
Zack Mathis of Mt. Olive, IL, CJ (Kari) Mathis of Taylorville, IL, Caleb (Kate) Mathis of
Shelbyville, IL and Zach Mathis of Staunton, IL, Jake Hartman of Mt. Olive, IL, 5 Granddaughters: Courtney Mathis of St. Louis, MO.
Mason Mathis of Atlanta, GA, Lauren, Emma and Lillie Mathis of Staunton, IL.
5 great-grandchildren: Theo Mathis, Jett and James Mathis, and Tage and Maylin Mathis
Private Family Graveside Service and Burial will take place at Chapman Cemetery, Mt. Olive, IL.
Military Rites will be performed by the U.S. Army Honor Guard at graveside.
