Charles Petroline
Charles Petroline passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 11:47 a.m. at Litchfield Health and Rehab in Litchfield, IL. He was 94 years old.
Mr. Petroline was born on December 1, 1929 to Andrew Petroline and Theresa (Frey) Petroline in White City, IL. He attended White City Grade School and Mt. Olive High School. He married Florence Phyllis Grippi on May 9, 1953 in St. Louis, MO. Mr. Petroline served in the United States Marines and participated in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged. After his service, Mr. Petroline worked in construction and was a serviceman for Illinois Power and Gas Company, now Ameren. He was a member of the Ascension Church (St. John Paul II) Catholic Church in Mt. Olive, IL. Mr. Petroline was also a member of the Knights of Columbus (4th degree), American Legion, Croatian Lodge, and Laborers Local 338 in Wood River, IL . He enjoyed gardening and camping and loved wintering in Florida.
Mr. Petroline is survived by three sons: Andrew (Linda) Petroline of Staunton, IL, Phillip (Dena) Petroline of Sorento, IL and Jerry (Melba) Petroline of Sorento, IL, two daughters: , Christine (James) Costello of Mt. Olive, IL, Karen (Tom) Harmon of Mt. Olive, IL and one daughter-in-law Lori Petroline of Staunton, IL, seven grandsons, three granddaughters, nine great-grandchildren, and a brother-in-law Clarence Grippi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Phyllis, sons: Robert, Danny and Charles Jr., a grandson, Kevin Petroline, four brothers: Frank, Adam, Paul, and Joseph, and three sisters: Eva Tun, Elizabeth Wuske, and Francis Soltysiak. Charles was the last remaining member of his family.
Visitation will take place Saturday, February 10, 2024 at St. John Paul II Catholic Church in Mt. Olive, IL at 8:30 until the time mass begins at 10 a.m. with Very Reverend Father Thomas Hagstrom officiating. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Mt. Olive, IL. A lunch will be provided for friends and family immediately following at St. John Paul II Church Hall in Mt. Olive, IL.
