Charles "Chuck" William Compton Obituary
Charles William “Chuck” Compton
July 26, 1947 – January 10, 2026
Charles William “Chuck” Compton, 78, of Carlyle, Illinois, passed away at home on Saturday, January 10, 2026.
Being a dad and Pa Pa was what he cared about most in his later years. His kids and grandkids were where he spent most of his time. If he was sitting with them, he was exactly where he wanted to be. He didn’t need much else.
Chuck served his country in the United States Army, including service in Vietnam and Korea. He didn’t talk about it. He just carried it with him in how he lived—showing up, handling what needed done, and doing what he said he would do.
He spent most of his time outside—on the water fishing, playing some golf, in the woods hunting for mushrooms or his most favorite thing to do was cutting his grass. He took pride in cutting grass and was particular about it. No one else was allowed to mow.
Chuck’s life was shaped by his wife, Catherine Sue (Korunka) Compton. They were married on January 30, 1971, in Mt. Olive, Illinois. After her passing, he honored her every day in his own quiet way. Their marriage set the tone for everything that followed.
Chuck was born on July 26, 1947, in Litchfield, Illinois, to William and Clara (LaRose) Compton. He attended Mt. Olive High School and later worked as a Teamster for Cassen’s Transport, loading and hauling automobiles. It was physical work, and he was proud of it.
He is survived by his children; Keely (Adam) Hahs; Molly (Heath) Lowe; Jamie “Beaver” Compton; and Sara (Brandon) Cox.
He is also survived by his grandchildren: Seth Matt, Zach Matt, Bailey Matt Adlee Hahs, Dylan Maass Tyler Clark, Hunter Lowe, Quinton Wimberly, Travis Wimberly Gabe Hansen, Caleb Volkmar, Avery Self, Harper Cox and several great-grandchildren.
He is further survived by his brother, George (Mary Ann) Compton, many sisters in laws, brother in laws and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Catherine; his daughter, Dawn (Compton) Vanetta; two brothers; and four sisters.
Services are pending. Becker and Son Funeral Home of Mt. Olive is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be shared at beckerandson.com.
