Charmaine Fowler Barcus (1931-2024)
Charmaine Barcus left this world peacefully on December 27, 2024. She and her twin, Rosemary Baker, were born January 7, 1931 in Grassy, Missouri, to August and Eula Fowler. She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings, including Clarabelle Subick of Mt. Olive; and survived by one sister, Norma Sumner of Simi Valley, California. Charmaine and her beloved Wayne Barcus were joined in marriage on March 5, 1952. They were never apart until his death on July 11, 1991. Following his death, Charmaine moved to Mt. Olive to be close to family. She and Wayne were blessed with four daughters Cathy Horowitz (deceased), Mary (Todd) Stewart, Rhonda Barcus, and Connie (Jeff) Kuenneth. She was loved by her six grandchildren Danny (Michelle) Wright, Randi (Alex Jones) Eccher, Josh (Karmen) Stewart, Susan (Ian Andujar) Horowitz, Tayler (Josh) McMeekan, and Tanner (Emily Diaz) Kuenneth. She was known as Grandma Charmaine by nine great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her amazing baking skills, especially chocolate chip cookies, and her smile. A private family memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Meals on Wheels serving Mt. Olive (Illinois Valley Economic Development Corporation, P.O. Box 88, Gillespie, IL 62033-0088) or Zion Lutheran Church Choir (500 South Old Route 66, Mt. Olive, IL 62069).
