Dolores Mae (DeVries) Monke Obituary

Dolores Mae Monke passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra, IL at 4:12 a.m. She was 89 years old. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mt. Olive and was a member of The Lydia Circle.


 

Dolores was born in Litchfield, IL on December 12, 1935 to Ferdinand and Velma (Hosto) DeVries She was a graduate of Mt. Olive High School. She married Gilbert Monke on August 15, 1954 at Zion Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive, IL, and he preceded her in death. Dolores worked for the Secretary of State after graduation and then once married she became a homemaker and helped Gilbert on the dairy and grain farm in rural Mt. Olive. Later in life, when most of her children were out of school, she worked at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield admitting patients.


 

Dolores’ hobbies included hosting family holiday dinners and baking new desserts. She subscribed to The Taste of Home magazine for many years and loved trying out new recipes. Her favorite place in the house was definitely the kitchen. She was a fantastic homemaker and no one ever left her house hungry.


 

Dolores is survived by two daughters: Michelle (Mike) Kostich and Terri (John) Halversen, grandchildren: Meredith (Donnie) Osborn, Tyler (Kelly) Kostich, Quinn Halversen, Sydney Halversen, Eric (Rachel) Seabaugh, Nick (Michele) Seabaugh, and Danielle (Nick) Gerndt, great-grandchildren: Gavin, Brady, Alexa, Kyle, Ella, Avery, Jaxon, Alex and Jim and a brother, Elwayne (Alice) DeVries.


 

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son: Mark Alan Monke, a son, Dennis Monke, a daughter Lynette Good, a brother, Lamoine DeVries, a sister-in-law Mary Ann DeVries.


 

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive, IL. The service will begin at 11a.m. and will be officiated by Reverend James Ritter. Interment will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Mt. Olive, IL. Lunch for family and friends will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Educational Building.


 

Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
