Doris V. Brines
Doris V. Brines passed away at 11:35 p.m. on Monday, September 25, 2023 at Staunton Health and Rehab Center. She was 93 years old.
Mrs. Brines was born on March 6,1930 to Otho Gill and Pearl (Seeger) Gill in Shoal Creek Township in Bond County. She attended Smith Grade School in Bond County and graduated from Mt. Olive High School in the Class of 1946. Mrs. Brines married Verne E. Brines on October 15, 1949 at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Olive where she was a member. He preceded her in death on March 9, 1999. In 1970, at the age of 40, Mrs. Brines enrolled in classes at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville and first earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education and later received her Masters in Education. She taught kindergarten in Bunker Hill for 19 years. She also worked for two years at Wolf Ridge Library in Bunker Hill. Mrs. Brines was strong in her faith and very active in her church. She enjoyed going to yard sales and educating kids. She loved spending time with her family.
Mrs. Brines is survived by two sons: Kelly (Kay) Brines of Mt. Olive, Warner (Maria) Brines of Oxford, MS, a daughter: Priscilla (Donald) Monke of Plain City, OH, a son-in-law Clayton Spencer of Edwardsville, IL, nine grandchildren: Valerie Frizzo, Jeb Brines, Travis Monke, Holly Eades, Nathan Monke, Kyle Spencer, Hayden Brines, Lawson Brines, Brayden Smiley, and 8 great-grandchildren, a brother, John (Kim) Pakovich of Panama, IL, two sisters: June Hinz and Rhonda Pegal both of Mt. Olive, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, Jill Spencer, a sister Delores Kline, a grandson, Jason Smiley, a great-granddaughter, Anna Dolores Monke and brother-in-law Arthur (Sam) Hinz.
A private graveside service will take place at a later date. Reverend Nancy Hubert of the First United Methodist Church in Staunton, IL will officiate.
