Dorothy Jatcko Obituary

 

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dorothea “Dorothy” Susan Jatcko, aged 98, on Sept. 20, 2024. Dorothy was born on Dec. 6th, 1925 in Mt. Olive, IL. She spent her life as a devout Catholic, attentive daughter to Susan and John Jatcko Sr., and successful working professional in St. Louis, MO.

 

Dorothy’s education started by attending grade school at Holy Trinity Catholic School, then Mt. Olive High School, secretarial school, and throughout her life took many college courses at both SLU and SIUE. She was a lifelong learner and well-traveled having visited several countries including Italy, France and Mexico.

 

Known for her independence, selflessness and elegant style, Dorothy cared for family members, mentored, and did volunteer work. She spent her professional career with Pet Corporation as Executive Assistant to the CEO and later managed its HR department. Dorothy was always chic while being grounded by her faith. She drove a 1965 gold Mustang, lived in a high-rise apt. in the Central West End, and attended The Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis just across the street. She later came back to Mt. Olive to care for her parents and lived out her days in Edwardsville, IL.

 

Dorothy was the oldest of six siblings. She is preceded in death by brothers Donald Jatcko of Mt. Olive, IL, John (Carol) Jatcko, Jr of Edwardsville, IL, and sister Josephine (Victor) Horne of Detroit, MI. Dorothy is survived by her brothers Edward (Lois) Jatcko of Staunton, IL and Tony (Margaret) Jatcko of Atlanta, GA. She also has 14 nieces and nephews (13 surviving, 1 preceded) who were deeply loved by Dorothy.

 

A funeral Mass service will be held at Blessed Pope John Paul II Catholic Church (formerly Ascension) at 705 E. Main Street, Mount Olive, IL on Tues. Sept 24th, 2024 at 11am with a brief visitation prior at the church starting at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Dorothy’s honor be made to Holy Trinity Cemetery, c/o Becker Funeral Home, 221 S Poplar St, Mt. Olive, IL 62069.

 

Dorothy’s legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Farewell Dorothy, we love you!
