Helen Joan “Jody” Zarr

Helen Joan “Jody” Zarr passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 2:09 p.m. at her home. She was 86 years old.

Mrs. Zarr was born on February 8, 1936 in Shoal Creek Township to Herman J. Schweppe and Goldie B.(Seeger) Schweppe. She attended school in Livingston, IL. She married John Andrew Zarr at the home of Ferdinand & Pauline Girardi in Benld, IL on February 16, 1963, and he preceded her in death on December 19, 2013. Mrs. Zarr was a self-employed beautician and owned and operated a business that sold crafts, furniture and offered quilting classes. She was a member of the Mt. Olive VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Zarr enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, planting flowers, watching hummingbirds, spending time with family on Sundays and St. Louis Cardinals games.

Mrs. Zarr is survived by her two sons: Terry (Dianne) Zarr of Staunton, IL, John David (Andrea) Zarr of Glen Carbon and grandchildren: Jonathan David and Andrew Charles Zarr.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, one sister, Nedra Schweppe and one brother, Bobby Donald Schweppe.

Pallbearers are: Bob Mancini, Robert Mancini, Ben Barker, John Pakovich, Tom Curtis and Robert Pickerill. Honorary pallbearers are grandsons: Jonathan David & Andrew Charles Zarr.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, January 8, 2023 from 5 - 7 p.m. at Becker and Son Funeral Home in Mt. Olive, IL. Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 9, 2022 and will be officiated by Gary Hanover. Burial will be in Union Miners Cemetery in Mt. Olive, IL. Lunch will be served at St. John Paul II Catholic Church Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Union Miners Cemetery/Mother Jones.
