Jess R. Anglin Sr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at 6:15 a.m. at the home of his daughter with his loving family by his side. He was 80 years old.

Jess was born in East St. Louis, IL on September 18, 1943 to Jess and Millie (Ingram) Anglin. He attended school at Clark Elementary and Jr. High Schools in East St. Louis, IL until 8th grade. He married Dorothy (Butler) Anglin on June 7, 1963. They were married for 60 years.

Jess loved fishing, camping, playing bingo, and working on cars and slots. Jess was loved by many for his good humor, laughs, jokes, and above all his kindness. He was always the life of the party. Jess always had a contagious smile. He didn’t know a stranger. He really enjoyed helping others. He was everyone's dad or grandpa. Family was his life. He loved playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jess loved his three dogs: Jewels, Miley and Coco.

For over 30 years, Jess was employed at St. Louis National Stockyards working in several positions. While there he worked as a police officer and for over twenty years a volunteer firefighter. He was also a volunteer firefighter for the Mt. Olive Fire Department for many years.

Jess is survived by his wife, Dorothy, four sons: Jess R. (Patricia) Anglin of Litchfield, IL, William Scott Anglin and companion Teresa of Carlinville, IL, Philip Anglin of Litchfield, IL, and Donald Anglin of Galesburg, IL, one daughter, Dawn (Scott) Martin of Mt. Olive, IL, grandchildren: Christina (Derek) Sellers of Collinsville, IL, Michael (Corina) Lee of Hillsboro, IL, Matthew Bone and Andrew Bone of Mt. Olive, IL, Whitney (Logan) Miller of Litchfield, IL, Cody (Tessa) Anglin, of Litchfield, IL, Aaron (Charity) Anglin, of Carlinville, IL, Kyleigh (Sam) Anglin of Litchfield, IL, Regina Holmes of Springfield, IL, Tiffany Anglin of Colorado, twenty great-grandbabies, a brother, Tommy (Wendy) Anglin of Buffalo, MO, three sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, three brothers: Jess Anglin, Jr., Edmond Anglin, and Terry Anglin, four sisters-in-law, one nephew and one daughter-in-law.

In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to help with funeral costs.

A visitation will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023, from 4 - 8 p.m. at Becker and Son Funeral Home in Mt. Olive, IL.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 2 p.m. at the home of his daughter in Mt. Olive. Come and join his family to share your fond memories of Jess.
