Mark Allen “Woody” Wood passed away on Monday, June 9, 2026 at his home in Mt. Olive, IL. He was 66 years old.

Mark “Woody” was born on May 9, 1960 in Alton, IL to Kenneth Paul Wood and Loradean Rosetta (Goff) Wood. He attended Staunton Elementary School and graduated from Staunton High School in the class of 1978. Woody was a self-employed carpenter and owner and operator of Woodworks Home Remodeling. He was an excellent carpenter, and he had many happy, satisfied customers who became his friends. While he was very proud of the projects he completed for others, he was most proud of the log cabin that he built for himself outside Mt. Olive. It was his dream to live where he could sit quietly on his porch and enjoy nature. He was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed attending many local football and basketball games. One of his favorite pastimes was following junior high sports and watching his goddaughter, Madeline Carlile, and her teammates play. On most Monday’s, after a busy day working on homes, he could be found hanging out at Tilley’s “wing night.” In the mornings before starting work, he enjoyed breakfast with friends at Route 138. Woody also frequented the “Queen of Hearts” drawings with friends at Turner Hall on Friday evenings hoping to be a big winner. Woody had a big heart and was always willing to lend a hand to a friend when they needed help. He will be missed.

Mark “Woody” is survived by a brother, Steven Paul (Cynthia Anne Marie Ogden) Wood, and a sister, Cheryl A. (Wood) Potillo, nieces: Sara (Victor) Arias, Kim (Nathen) Barto, nephews: Eric (Erica) Wood, Derek (Paige) Wood, Austin (Aspen) Wood, Dana (Mike) Wood, several great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews, his beloved cat, Tigger, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth Michael Wood, two nieces Cay Lynn Booth and Gail Anne Booth, and a nephew, Jeremy Potillo, several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A private family graveside is planned for a later date.
