Shirley Mae Yancik
Shirley Mae Yancik passed away on April 6, 2026 at 12:12 a.m. at Copper Creek Memory Care of Litchfield, IL. She was 87 years old.
Shirley was born on July 30, 1938 to Gerald Tull and Claudia Hatfield in Shelbyville, IL. She attended Shelbyville grade school and high school. After graduation, Shirley attended Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. She was employed by Livingston and Mt. Olive School District as a music teacher. Shirley married Charles M. Yancik on June 23, 1962 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Mt. Olive, IL. He preceded her in death on March 2, 2019. She was a member of the St. John Paul II Catholic Church and sang in the choir. In her free time, Shirley enjoyed card club and her bowling league. She loved her flower gardens and saving all the stray pets that she could.
Shirley is survived by a son, Tony (Alecia) Yancik of Naples, FL, three daughters: Laura Lockhart (Mike Finch) of Staunton, IL, Valerie (Tony) Spratte of Des Peres, MO, and Melissa Ocepek (Shawn Rothe) of Staunton, IL, seven grandchildren: Nick Rothgangel (Keli Plenske), Nathan Rothgangel, Andrea Rothgangel (Nick Bond) Alex (Mandy) Ocepek, Coby, Evan and Brady Spratte, great-grandchildren: Max and Mason Ocepek and Althea Bond.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, a sister, Leajeanne Taylor, and her parents, Gerald and Claudia Tull.
Visitation will take place at St. John Paul II Catholic Church in Mt. Olive, IL on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 from 9 until 11 a.m. Mass officiated by Father Thomas Hagstrom will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Mt. Olive, IL. Lunch for family and friends will immediately follow interment at St. John Paul II Church Hall.
Memorials are suggested to Adopt-a-Pet and Holy Trinity Cemetery.
