Steven Neil "Hutch" Hutchins Obituary
Steven Neil “Hutch” Hutchins, 70, of Mount Olive, passed away in his home in Mount Olive, IL, on August 7, 2025, at 12:29 pm. He was born in Hillsboro, IL, to Ernest Neil Hutchins and Vivian Alene (Carriker) Hutchins on December 17, 1954.
Hutch graduated from Mount Olive High School in 1972. After graduation, he began working for Granite City Steel, where he retired in 2017. He took great pride in his success and enjoyed the fruits of his hard work in many ways. He loved riding his Harley any opportunity he had, taking trips to Sturgis, North Dakota, as well as locally to places like Springfield and DuQuoin for the AMA races.
When Hutch took an interest in a hobby, he researched and studied it until he was a master of it. He was an avid gardener and worked tirelessly in his garden, providing himself, friends, as well as much of the community with products he grew. He also harvested blackberries, watermelon, and grapes that he turned into delicious wine to share with friends and family. He was an outdoors person and enjoyed fishing as well as hunting, and was known to make some tasty treats from his catch. He took a lot of interest in repairing and rebuilding small engines and creating one-of-a-kind methods of transportation. If it was broken, he could fix it.
If Hutch wasn’t busy with outdoor activities, he was spending his time taking in the local social scene by being a Karaoke DJ and showing off his vocal talent. He often went to concerts and comedy shows with friends and was always eager to attend MMA/UFC events, especially when they included local participants. He was a skilled pool player and was always up for a game. He also enjoyed bowling in leagues in his younger years. He was an active member of Turner Hall, where he supported various annual events.
Above all things, Hutch valued in his life, his friends and family were top of the list. He was a great friend and had friends everywhere he went. He had a huge heart and took great care of those he cared about, always there to lend a hand. He would make you laugh with his sense of humor and always had a good time spending time with old friends and making new ones along the way.
Steve is survived by a brother, David (Patricia) Hutchins of Brighton, IL, and brother-in-law, Greg Satterlee of Mount Olive and five sisters, Vicki (Bob) Tipsword of Ocala, FL, Susan Santisteven of Ocala, FL, Joetta (Steve) Burris of West Palm Beach, FL, Tricia (Ernie) Kierbach of Troy, IL, Jennifer Cline of Staunton, IL, and numerous nieces and nephews as well as great and great-great nieces and nephews.
